I have a super quick tip today, and you can feel free roll your eyes at me and mutter "get with the times" if you already do this.
Since becoming zero waste (or, ahem, low waste), I used to try to go without chopsticks at Japanese restaurants, since they usually are single-use and come packaged in paper. If I did end up using them (sushi with a fork or fingers seems not so polite), I'd take said wooden chopsticks home to compost and the paper chopstick wrapper home to recycle. These are both okay strategies, but one leaves me chopstick-less and one uses disposable products, even if they are compostable, so neither really sat very well with me.
My boyfriend came up with the idea of bringing our own reusable chopsticks when we go out for Asian food, and it has instantly eliminated all of my chopstick angst. There are better things to be angsty about, anyways. We still forget to bring our reusable chopsticks sometimes, but it's becoming more and more of a habit. And I'm glad about that. Do you do this?
